Jason currently has an internship with the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau. Because of this, he sometimes gets free tickets to stuff going on around town. Last Thursday, he got free tickets (originally $125 each) to the First Bites Bash at Union Station downtown. We couldn't pass up the opportunity. We got ourselves a babysitter and went! It was so fun! I have pictures, but am too lazy to upload them onto my computer right now. You get the idea of what it looked like from the Union Station link above. It was cocktail party attire, open bar (of course, we drank soda), waiters picking up your drinks/trash, and all sorts of gourmet samples from restaurants around town. Think of a glorified Costco with foodie food. We were surprisingly full from our sampling. The place was packed! I felt very cool, like I was at one of the hottest parties in town.
Does it make me a bad mom that I didn't have any problems leaving Luke for a couple hours? It was our first time leaving him with a babysitter. Jason said it means I'm just well adjusted. If I was nervous at all, it was that he would be a pill for our friends, because he had been fussy earlier that day. It turned out he was only fussy until he ate and then he slept the rest of the night, so my fears were unfounded.
i think it's great that you were able to leave luke....and that event sounds fabulous! like taste of chicago...but free! and fancy!
