No, I don't have any wedding pictures yet. Nor do I have my bridals. Even though it's been 3 weeks since the wedding (which, by the way, went by a lot faster than the 3 weeks before the wedding), I haven't had a chance to go to my photographer's studio and look at the prints. If you want to see some pics that my sisters took, go to their blogs (Thamina, Lucille). When my photographer sends me the CD with all of my pictures on it, I'll share the best ones.
So why, you might ask, have I not had a chance to go to the photographer's studio? Our initial plan was to leave for our honeymoon to Costa Rica the Tuesday after the wedding, be there for a week, then spend a week in Chicago, and then come back to Utah for Christmas. In reality, Jason started feeling sick Monday night around midnight. Tuesday morning, he decided he needed to go to the doctor. We went to the local Instacare, and they promptly sent him to the hospital. He had terrible stomach pains, but no fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. The location of his stomach pain did not indicate appendicitis. Also, stomach pain in appendicitis takes about 12 hours longer to get bad enough for someone to decide to go to the hospital.
When we got to the ER, it quickly became clear that there was no way we were catching our noon flight that day. The doctor ordered blood work, which showed high white blood cell count (an indication of an infection, for those of you not in the medical field). The doctor was pretty sure it was appendicitis, but since his symptoms weren't totally consistent with appendicitis, they ordered a CT scan as well. It came back positive with...appendicitis. It turns out that Jason's appendix is (was) not where it normally should be, hence the weird symptoms. He was in surgery by 2:00 that afternoon.
In the meantime, I worked on getting him on my insurance. Thank heavens that my company was willing to cover him as of our wedding date, otherwise we would have been saddled with at least $20K in hospital bills. Jason's mom spent the afternoon rearranging our honeymoon. We had to pay some extra money to change the flights, but we were able to get our flights and tour reservations moved to the next week.
We ended up spending the week after our wedding in Utah instead of in Costa Rica. Jason recovered from his appendectomy and I worked that week. All in all though, we were pretty lucky. If the appendicitis had flared up before the wedding, Jason wouldn't have had any insurance. If it had flared up a few days later, we would have been in Costa Rica. As it was, we had family around to help and insurance to help pay for it. We felt really blessed.
We flew to Chicago the 2nd Tuesday after our wedding and then left to Costa Rica from Chicago the next day. I'll post later about Costa Rica.
